THE PLANET HOUSE RULES

At The Planet, these rules apply to all people at all times-- not just to kids who are checked in. We think these are the natural rules of nice behavior at all times and places, and we think it would be best if kids 6 and up had already become familiar with them. In any case, we will require and teach these standards, and we ask parents to support us in this, at least while their kids are at The Planet.

Food:

1. Please (kids and grown-ups) enter The Planet without open or half-open drinks, snacks, or other food.
2. There is no set lunch-time at The Planet, but our policy is to leave food or drink containers closed until we are seated at a table inside or seated almost anywhere outside. An exception is made for lollipops.
3. Once you are seated and eating a lunch or snack, please remain seated until you are finished; then put remaining food items in your lunch-box or lunch-bag, before taking them back to the cubbies. Children are not allowed to walk around with open food at The Planet.

Health and Safety:

1. No one may push, hit, touch, or annoy another person, or cause anything else to do so, without his or her consent.
2. If physical play starts to be bothersome, each person must make it clear that he or she does not want to be touched or bothered any more. Just stay 'stop.' If the other person seems to think you're not serious, say that you are. If this does not work, get the attention of a Planet staff-person.
3. Children must always cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing.
4. Children at the Planet, whether signed in or not, must do what the appropriate adults tell them to do, including their parents. Planet consequences will apply if children disobey their parents while at The Planet. And we ask parents to be as clear and attentive as possible when telling their children what to do.
5. The grounds of The Planet are beautiful, interesting, and, in back, not surrounded by a fence. Children playing outside will be shown our boundaries.
6. No one may play with doors, inside bathrooms, or the computers.

Politeness:

1. Gross, mean, or other insensitive talk is not allowed at The Planet. Everything in the world can be said in appropriate ways. Think of the appropriate way.
2. Even in 'unstructured' settings, children must learn not to interrupt, especially not to begin talking to an adult who is teaching or talking to someone else.
3. Please finish cell-phone conversations and put the cell-phone away before entering The Planet. If you must answer a call while at The Planet, please take it outside or answer in the quietest possible way.

Sharing:

1. No one is required to 'share' his or her food, snacks, toys or other things. One rule applies to all your possessions and food, as well as to your body: Since it's yours, you can say 'no,' and you don't need a reason.
2. Sharing of Planet equipment is not usually required. We don't usually set time limits. We can almost always find less formal ways to make sure everyone gets a turn.
